Info
Every person, at whatever corner of the earth, needs shelter, and shelter is simply having a roof under you. Therefore, residential roofing is products that are necessary for the provision of a quality roof to consumers at homes, apartments, and garages among other applications to the residence. Most of the residential roofing products have been designed for steep slope roofs. These products include roofing shingles, accessory products such as ridges, and underleads that are waterproof. These factors ensure that you have a quality roof over your head.
However, emergencies can occur making you panic of your safety. Below is an insight about emergency roofing and the measures to undertake when it happens.
Before we talk about the measures to take when an emergency occurs, let us first look at what qualifies to be an alarming emergency.
In most cases, roof damages occur due to a bad weather event which cannot be controlled since it is nature. But there are also other factors can cause damage to your roof. Below is a list of these factors.
1. High-speed wind with a speed of up to 55 mph, this speed is capable enough of tearing the whole shingle of a roof system if not some.
2. Falling trees around have also been rampant wearing down part of the roof.
3. During a torrential rainfall, the storm can be accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm which may likely destroy the roofing system.
4. Rodents such as squirrels and raccoons have the habit of chewing rotten wood and most likely they create holes in the roof that is sizeable enough to cause infiltration into the house.
5. Accidents such as infernos may occur and fire mostly decimates anything that is along its path hence can tear the roof down.
If anything of the case above arises, first do not panic, if it is a storm, fire, or any other calamity that can be injurious or cause loss of life, seek safety first before doing anything else. Do not even try to salvage your property, for life is far much more important than any riches. Only when the event that caused the damage subsides that you can take any other measures. The best method for an emergency roof repair in residential roofing is tarping. Below is an explanation of the whole process of tarping.
Roof tarping is simply covering your roof momentarily before any permanent solution is arrived to rather than leaving the house exposed. Tarping also protects your roof from further damage and can last up to 3 months withstanding rain. Below is a procedural process of roof tarping.
Find the damage point of the roof and assess the demolished part keenly, be careful since in the event you can be injured measure the damage size accurately, if possible, you can call an expert to help you if you fear heights or cannot accurately measure the damaged size. Make sure you record your measures or remember them correctly
You can take pictures of the damage that can be used as evidence during the time of claiming from the insurance company purchase the most suitable tarp that corresponds with your measures, it is even better to purchase a relatively bigger one just to be sure in case of more damage during the repair of the tarp. You should ensure that your property is safe while doing all these activities. After purchasing the tarp get help from either family or friends and unroll the tarp. If you can do it by yourself, just let there be someone who can check out on you, in case anything happens.
Clear all the debris from the roof, and lay the tarp over the roof, secure the tap to your roof with a board 38 by 89mm boards with a drill to peak all the ends of the tarp. Stick out at least 2 feet sticks outwards, attach the tarp to the board and hammer the cap of the nails through the tap into the board underneath. Repeat this process to all the other three ends so that all the tarps are attached underneath the board.
Wrap the remaining parts of the tarp that were left outside around the boards, this is to make them recover on all sides. Screw through the tarps and boards with a drill lay four more perpendicular boards and screw them together so that they overhang under the tarp. You can then roll the overhangs of the tarp and screw them in under the eave. If necessary, you can screw more wooden boards on the tarp for durability. At this point, you are assured of safety in your house but only temporarily.
If this whole process is ambiguous, you can employ a qualified carpenter to complete this task, however, it should be noted that this is not the final step and your house repair, make plans to contact a professional roofing contractor near you, to fix this problem permanently. Also, be careful of torm chasers’ who might want to take advantage of the situation and defraud you.

How much does a new roof cost?
The cost of a new roofing system depends on many variables, such as the materials that you select, the size of your roof, the type of warranty that you opt for, and any upgrades that you choose. There are different grades and styles for each roofing system, such as with shingles you can choose from 3-tab, architectural and designer shingles. For each roofing material the costs can vary.
How long does a new roof last?
This depends on several factors, most importantly the type of roofing system that you have installed on your home. The lifespan of your roof is also influenced by local factors such as climate, environmental conditions and weather. The more severe storms that your roof 'weathers', the quicker it can begin to wear down. The material quality, roof system design, installation to manufacturer specifications and roof maintenance are all major factors into how long your new roof can last. Typically, most asphalt shingle roofs will last 15-20 years. A metal roof can last 30-50 years. A tile roof can last over 100+ years!
Do I need to have my roof repaired or replaced?
The only way to accurately answer this is after one of our free roofing inspections. Leaks are an indicator that something is broken in your roofing system. However, sometimes a leaky roof can be a quick fix if it's a minor flashing problem or a chimney leak. The age of your roof will also influence whether or not repairs are possible, as the older a roof becomes, the more brittle the shingles become. Not all roofs need to be replaced, but it is a good idea to have a thorough roof inspection to determine what is causing those leaks.
How long does it take to replace a roof?
In most instances, a new roof can be installed in as little as one day. However, the time it takes to install your new roof depends on variables like the size of your roof, and the type of material being installed. There are also other factors such as whether you have multiple layers that need to be removed, and if mother nature dictates that your roof replacement needs to be pushed back from a rainy day.
My roof was damaged in a storm, what should I do?
If your roof is leaking, or missing shingles after a recent hail or wind storm, it is a very good idea to set up a storm damage roofing inspection. We can provide a comprehensive storm damage inspection to thoroughly examine for storm damage and leak spots. We have helped repair & replace 1,000's of roofs due to storm damage. In many cases, insurance will cover the damage because of an "Act of God" and all storm related damage. We can help provide you peace of mind during this process.
Should I go with asphalt shingles or a metal roof?
This is a very popular question that we get. Asphalt shingles are the most popular roofing material in the United States, and for good reason. It is a quality material, and most important for many people, the most economical system available. When on a budget, asphalt shingles are the best option. However, a metal roof can last 30-50 years, whereas a shingle roof may last 15-25 years. A metal roof can last two or three times as long as a shingle roof, which makes it a more economical long-term option. Metal roofs are durable, offer excellent longevity, and have many colors and styles to choose from. However, you also need to check with your HOA to ensure that metal roofs are allowed.
